Catering at the Club with New Chef Andrew Ford

The club recently welcomed new chef Andrew Ford to the fold.

Andrew graduated from catering college in Bournemouth when he was 17, where his first class reputation earned him a scholarship at a Michelin-starred French hotel. After a period of intense but invaluable training he found himself in the Grill Room at the Savoy. From there he went on to work at various restaurants including the Clos Du Roy in Bath and the Royal Berkshire Hotel in Ascot.

Having previously provided catering services in the sports and leisure sector, at venues such as Coventry Rugby Club, Andy is extremely experienced in running a high quality restaurant and was the perfect choice to run the club’s catering operation.

With the help of his wife Teresa and his front of house manager Angus, the team are making dining at Leamington & County a whole new experience. Friday Night’s Buffet is extremely popular and the new Tuesday Night Curry Club is sure to be a hit, priced a very reasonable £4.95.

Discussing his arrival, Andy commented ‘joining the club was really exciting for me and I’ve very much enjoyed my first few months here. I aim to provide top quality menus and make eating here an experience to remember. We’ve already had some great feedback since deciding to serve Sunday lunch every week and the Friday night buffets have been a great success. I believe a golf club’s restaurant should meet the needs of every member, whether they’re looking for a quick snack after their round, a place to entertain friends and family or indeed a venue for a major event or celebration’.

There are a lot of social events planned including a celebration of Beaujolais Day. Andrew will also be taking bookings for Christmas Day and Boxing Day lunches and the New Year’s Eve Party – please book soon as places are strictly limited.

New Aerator for 2010

This year we have purchased a new aerator, so that we can increase the amount of aeration that can be done to the greens. This aerator gives us the option to aerate through the season with 8mm diameter tine to a depth of 260mm with out disturbing the surface.

Leamington & County’s new aerator in action

This will benefit the greens promoting a healthier root system and healthier plant. The aeration will reduce the run off we get when we use the irrigation system, as it will penetrate into the soil and the water will get into the soil profile where it is required.

This will also help get wetting agents in to the soil profile and help the turf show more drought resistance.

The aim is to use this aerator monthly through out the season in conjunction with the top dressing and rolling programme that we currently do.
