Ladies’ Captain’s Outing

52 ladies made their way to Copt Heath on 12th August for Ladies’ Captain, Pauline Hayes, outing. It was one of those days when black clouds circled the course but fortunately never came to anything.  The course itself was challenging, particularly if you ended up in any of its notorious bunkers but everyone enjoyed what is always a “fun day out”.

The competition itself is a team event and was won by Daphne Smith, Tina Bruder, Sandy Hudson and Nancy Williamson.  However the real highlight of the day, apart from the beautiful meal afterwards, was the hole in one by another Pauline, Pauline Moffatt!  She will talk you through the hole if you ask I am sure, but the ball flew over the ravine, between the bunkers guarding the green and down to the hole ignoring all the contours in its path!  Fantastic!  Well done to both Paulines!

Ladies’ Invitation Event

The Ladies’ Invitation took place on Tuesday 27th July with 38 members and their guests enjoying the event.  In spite of the weather forecast, those with later tee times were lucky enough to miss the heavy rain which the earlier players endured.  The competition was played in a team of 4 format with 2 Leamington ladies and their guests. The course played well and the winners, with a superb score of 92 points, were Ladies’ Captain Pauline Hayes, Betty Ray (Coventry), Margaret Wilson and Judy May (Tadmarton).  The day was completed with a lovely cold buffet – many thanks to Andy, our chef.

Captains Charity Raises £9,375 For Myton Hospice

Following the Charity buffet the Charity events continued with a Quiz night on 15th July 2010 and this was thoroughly enjoyed by 17 teams. The triumphant team was ably led by Richard Higgs. Money was raised during the evening by selling answers to questions on specific topics and by a raffle.

Many thanks to Chris and Eric Jones for running another great quiz.

The Friday night fun night albeit surviving a heavy downpour of rain was a terrific success. Outdoor events were able to start after an hours delay and finished in bright sunshine. The many events ,indoor and outdoor, were enjoyed by everyone and the BBQ was kept busy all night.

Thank you to everyone involved for giving their time and energy.

During the preceding weeks raffle tickets were sold for numerous prizes. These included a sealed bid auction for a greenhouse which was kindly donated by John Reeder of Compton Buildings, a raffle for a car parking space and the first raffle prize was a 4 bar on the PGA course at the Belfry donated by Coca Cola.

The winners of the prizes were;

Greenhouse – Alan Upwood

Car parking space – Gordon Williamson

Four ball on PGA – Paul Bryan.

A huge thank you to all people who donated prizes or sponsored holes and helped with Charity events. The sum of £9375 raised is a magnificent achievement in such a difficult financial climate and is a testament to the generosity of everyone at Leamington and County Golf Club.
