EQUALITY ACT 2010

Leamington & County Golf Club

THE EQUALITY ACT 2010

The Equality Act came into force on 1st October 2010.

The Act contains a section that specifically relates to Associations and Clubs with more than 25 members .The Act makes it unlawful to discriminate against members, associate members, prospective members and guests on the basis of a protected characteristic, whether directly or indirectly. This does not mean that all must be treated identically; just that no-one must be treated less favourably because of their sex, race, religion, disability, etc.

The Protected Characteristics listed in the Act that apply to Leamington & County Golf Club are:

• Age (not being implemented until 2012);

• Disability;

• Gender reassignment;

• Race (including ethnic origin, national origin, colour, nationality);

• Religion or belief;

• Sex;

• Sexual orientation.

To come within the scope of the Act and therefore be actionable, any direct or indirect discrimination must be on the basis of one of these characteristics.

The Committee has recently set up a working party comprising representatives from all sections of the club to consider any changes necessary for compliance with this Act.

 It is important that members be aware of the contents of the Equality Act and understand that changes may have take place to comply.

The Committee is also mindful that open and honest discussion is important and that innovative ideas may come from within the membership.

If you have any ideas, comments or questions please send them via email to secretary@leamingtongolf.co.uk or alternatively write to The Secretary via the Golf Club, marking your envelope ‘equality’

 Further information regarding the Act is available via the Internet: The Equality Act 2010 and Golf – Advice and Opinions from the EGU and EWGA

Junior Results April 26th

The Easter Stableford competition was held today in bright but quite chilly weather. The course was firm and the ball was running well. The greens have speeded up and were true.

15 Juniors took part , 14 boys and one girl. Hopefully more girls will join in soon.

Well done to Stan who won again yesterday shooting 50 points and
getting his handicap cut to 30. George Hawkes also played very well
and sercured runners up spot with 49 points.
Best gross score went to Shaun Ellis with a magnificent 76 and 45
points. Shaun is now down to 11.2 and is eligible to play in the adult
competitions as he is 12 or less. Well done Shaun!

There were some really good scores yesterday which are listed below.
Lots of shots cut this easter and signs of real improvement within our
section! Well done to you all!

Nags v Ladies Match 15th April

15th April, 2011
Grey Nags v Leamington Ladies Match

The keenly contested bi-annual match took place from early doors on Friday with a record 10 pairs from each side playing in near perfect weather conditions for custody of the Dale Cup, with the Grey Nags hosting.

The imaginative format was a 4ball better ball stableford game off full handicap, the Ladies, after Congu rules regarding  sss for the different tees,  receiving an extra 3 shots , the points from each match being totalled to decide the winners.

The much in form and highly focused Ladies stormed to an impressive 380 points to 337 points victory and the photo shows Grey Nags Captain, David Thistlethwaite, presenting the coveted cup to Ladies Captain, Jan LLoyd.

Among the stars for the ladies were Betty Mann (three net one on the 3rd and two net nothing on the 8th for a total of 9 points on the two holes) with Captain Jan also chipping in for a two along the way.

No reported stars at all for the ever courteous Nags who clearly enjoyed the ladies presence far too much and they now look forward to a change of fortune in the return match in September.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Well over 100 members attended the Annual General meeting recently.

As well as the normal business of the meeting and appointment of Officers for 2011, two Special meetings were held to consider proposals for changes to the Articles of Association and a rise in the Subscription fee for 2012.

The proposals for changes to the Articles included the removal of the unpaid subscription list in January each year, Officers could serve on the Board of Directors and an equal amount to be paid by both men and ladies should the Club ever be wound up.  These were all passed.

The proposal for a rise in the Subscriptions for 2012 which could potentially be above the norm was well debated and then was passed.
