Dunmow Cup

Winners of the Dunmow Cup

“The Dunmow Cup, open only to married couples since its inception in 1959, was this year keenly contested by 18 pairs on a mainly pleasant August afternoon, but punctuated by showery squalls.

This very popular and enthusiastically supported annual event was won by Gerry and Carol Robbins who scored 40 stableford points getting home from Allan and Liz Murdoch in second place with 38 points.

The competition was played on the course in excellent condition with the fairways revived from the recent rains and, as usual, it was well and truly celebrated with a traditional and very enjoyable dinner.”

An absolute pleasure to report on this encounter !!

New Junior Lessons Info

Hello to all young golfers and their parents,

As the school holidays near an end we are drawing your attention to the programme of golf lessons for juniors. I am contacting all those who have attended before and then I will advertise to new people. I would, therefore, ask you to confirm as soon as possible if you would like me to hold a space for you.You may also mention these to your friends.

You may like to know that the group of juniors who previously attended the 1pm group have taken the course by storm this summer and have reduced their handicaps down to incredible low numbers and taken part in competitions and matches against other clubs.(More details on the website www.leamingtongolf.co.uk  under members juniors)  The boys and girls ages of this group are in the 10 -13 range. At the beginning of the season some of these youngsters were just starting to go out on the course! Progress can sometimes be incredibly rapid. One of our 12 yr olds won the junior prize on Captains Day.

The groups will start on Saturday 17th September, 24th Sept, and 1st, 8th,15th and 22nd of October

11.00 am Young beginners/improvers aged 5/ 6/7
12:noon Girl and Boy improvers
1.00 pm Players
2pm Inexperienced youngsters over 8 yrs old
3pm Teenage beginners/improvers

These last two groups will be organised according to the response to them

The cost remains at £24 for the 6 sessions with the exception of a group from the 11am who have a credit for one session carried over from last time.
As golf is an outside sport wherever possible lessons will take place outside and suitable clothing should be worn.

We can provide equipment. Do get in touch with me if you would like any more information.

Regards
Angie

Lady Captain’s Day Out

 Lady Captain's Day Out

On Thursday approx 60 ladies went to Studley Woods Golf Club for Jan Lloyd’s Captain’s Day out. The coach arrived in the car park in good time and the ladies, in good spirits, set off. An hours drive saw us arrive at the club to be greeted by Jan. After downing bucks fizz and smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and croissant brunch, the competition got under way.

The weather started with wind and rain but changed to a very pleasant day. The format of the competition was in threes with 6 holes with only one score counting, six with two counting and six were you multiplied the highest two scores together, that is providing two scored! The course has a lot of water!

During the dinner in the evening Jan presented prizes to the winners:

1st Liz Munton, Wendy LLoyd and Felicity Carless

2nd Pip Wilson. Carolyn Talbot and Julie Ford

3rd Maggie Scofield, Kate Findlay and Dianne Robinson

Nearest the pin was Julie Ford and Chris Lees

A very good day was had by all and a safe journey home.

The ladies would like to thank Jan for all her organisation of what was a very successsful and good golf day.
