A close run thing . . .
This year’s return match between the Ladies and Grey Nags of Leamington & County on 3rd September turned into an extraordinary encounter.
In glorious weather some exciting golf took place the day after the ladies team had won a major trophy – making them Warwickshire champions.
The earlier match in March had been won by the Grey Nags under their selected rules and it was now the Ladies turn to chose rules and format, and they had captain Gill Thorpe back in their squad.
There were some very close matches with only one or two points separating the pairs. As the cards came in it looked as though the match result was going to be close, but no one anticipated how close.
Out of 546 points which were scored the men scored 273 points and the ladies the same, making the match result a tie.
Thus the Grey Nags retained the Dale Trophy, having won it in March, and Ladies Captain Gill Thorpe graciously presented it to their captain following the enjoyable lunch.
