Lady Captain’s Hole in One

Tuesday 2nd April was an eventful day for our Lady Captain, Gill Thorpe, as she scored her first hole in one on the par 3 third hole!

Gill was also the highest points scorer of the day in the fun competition which saw her Lady Captain’s team beat the Lady Vice Captain’s Team and the Lady Secretary’s team.

A good day’s golf for Gill.   Congratulations!

Ladies ‘At Home’

Leamington Ladies turned out in force on Tuesday 12th March to take part in the nine hole competition and buffet lunch to mark the start of the golfing season.

Leamington ladies captain, Gill Thorpe, had organised a bring and buy table, a cake stall and a plant sale which were all well supported and items very quickly sold. Proceeds from the various sales were in excess of £400 and are being divided between Gill’s charity for the year, Dogs for the Disabled and the Men’s Captains Charity, Myton Hospice.

It was good to see so many former playing ladies join the playing group for lunch and a good ‘catch up’ of news.

Congratulations to  Carolyn Talbot, Leamington & County Ladies member, who last year emerged victor of three of the Ladies Section major competitions.

Carolyn become hooked on golf after progressing through the group coaching sessions at Leamington and being an Apprentice, over the last few seasons.

She says that she found these sessions a great way to begin, especially as she was able to join with other ladies who were also starting out in golf.

Now a full member, her progress and meteoric rise in the game  have led her to be awarded the title of Midlands Golfer Magazine “Golf achiever of the Month”.

Her story can be followed in the December issue of that magazine.

Wet and Windy Tuesday

Wet and Windy Conditions Challenge Leamington Ladies.

Weather conditions on Tuesday 20th November were challenging to the lady golfers at Leamington & County.  Strong winds and rain put off many ladies who retreated to the lounge for coffee, cake and chat, but some braved the conditions for the monthly stableford and Dick Cunyngham Qualifier.

Leading the Silver division was Liz Murdoch who scored an impressive 36 points considering the dreadful weather, followed by Gill Thorpe on 27 points. The Bronze division winner was Carolyn Talbot who came in with 27 points, second place being taken by Martine Gilks. Sue Illingworth scored 29 points to win the Copper division followed by Catherine Pritchard as runner up.

Liz Murdoch, Martine Gilks and Sue Illingworth qualified to play in the Dick Cunyngham final next September.
