
VISITOR RULES & INFORMATION

Visiting Golfers
- All visitors must sign in with the professional and pay
the appropriate green fee before playing and show the ‘Green
Fee Paid’ ticket on their golf bag.
- Members can sign in guests at special green fee rates
- up to 3 guests per day Monday – Friday and on Saturdays
and Sundays after 2pm during summer season and after 12
noon winter season. One guest per member can be signed in
for reduced green fee at anytime provided the course is
not closed for member’s only competitions.
- Members can only sign in one guest at reduced green fees
on Bank Holidays.
- It should be noted that individually guests can only
be signed in by a member at reduced rates on a maximum of
6 times in a calendar year. The club carefully monitor this
rule and may ask for formal identification to ensure there
is no breach of the rule.
- Members must play with the guests they have signed in
and only within their own membership restrictions.
- Junior members may only sign in juniors visitors if they
are bona fide members of other recognised golf clubs.
- Junior members may not sign in adult visitors.
- Visitors under 21 years of age are not allowed to play
on their own.
- Visitors must start on the tee as directed on the starting
board and as instructed by the professional.
- Any reduction on green fees if temporary greens are in
use is at the discretion of the Secretary or Professional.
- Visitors who have paid the appropriate green fee have
full membership rights on the day of issue only.
- Use of buggies – The Professional has buggies for
hire to members and visitors. They may only be used if conditions
of the course allow. Members and visitors may use their
personal buggies with the prior permission of the club management
executive or secretary.
Dress Rules - A good standard of dress is
expected of members and visitors both on the Course, Practice
Areas and in the Clubhouse.
On the Course & Practice Areas
- Recognised Golf Clothing
- Gentlemen to wear shirts tucked in
- Tailored shorts, no more than 4 inches above the top
of knee with knee-length socks of any colour or predominately
white sports socks.
- It is recommended that soft spikes are used in fine weather
conditions.
Clubhouse
- Smart casual wear in all areas
- Gentlemen to wear shirts tucked in
- Shorts may be worn with the appropriate socks until 7pm
in the main lounge
- More formal clothing may be required when there is a
club function
- In the Day Room & Snooker Room smart casual clothing
at all times, golfing attire may be worn.
Ladies Dress Rule & Code
A good standard of dress is expected of members and visitors
both on and off the course and in the Clubhouse.
On the Course – Including the Practice Area
and Practice Ground
- Ladies must wear either spiked or dimpled golf shoes.
It is recommended that soft spikes or dimpled shoes are
worn in fine weather conditions.
- Ladies may wear a sports shirt, a collarless shirt with
sleeves, or a sleeveless shirt with collar.
- T-shirts, jeans, sun-tops and jogging suits are not allowed.
- Tailored shorts may be worn, but must be no more than
4” above the knee.
- Training shoes or similar types of footwear are not permitted.
- No denims of any colour.
In the Clubhouse
- Clean and tidy dress must be worn in the Clubhouse. It
is advisable to bring a change of clothes to wear after
your round of golf
- No jeans, denims of any colour, T-shirts, trainers, golf
shoes or wet and muddy clothes at any time.
- No training shoes
- Tailored shorts may be worn in the lounge before 7.00pm
The Following are not permitted for anyone:
- Jeans (i.e. rivets and top stitching), denim wear, T-shirts,
track or shell suits, sun tops, jogging suits, football
shorts or trainers.
- Golf shoes, caps or wet/muddy clothes in the clubhouse.
Relaxation of the dress rule may only be made by an officer
of the Club for any specific occasion.
Members and visitors are requested not to change clothing
or footwear in the Club car parks (the practice area car park
is excluded from this rule.
Clubhouse Opening Hours
The locker rooms will be open from 7am Summer and 7.30am Winter.
The opening and closing of the Lounge, Day Room and Snooker
Room are subject to change between seasons and any other time
where it is deemed necessary. Times will be prominently displayed
at all times on Club Notice Boards.
Snooker Room
The snooker tables are for the use of Members only. For this
purpose Visitors who have paid a Green Fee are classed as
members for the day but other visitors are not. However, each
adult member is allowed to bring a guest to play snooker on
six occasions a calendar year.
Juniors, under 18 years, are not allowed to play unless playing
with an adult, Intermediates from 18-20 years may play but
must give way to adults if requested.
Society and Social Bookings
All bookings must be made through the Secretary. Societies
are normally restricted to Wednesdays and Thursdays. Requests
for other days in the week or for numbers over 40 are decided
by the management executive committee.
All societies must conform to the Rules and Byelaws of the
Club.
Members wishing to make a party booking may either pay the
reduced green fees for the visitors under the usual conditions
and have no reserved tee-time or pay full green fees for the
visitors and have a tee-time reserved.
Visiting Teams
The Club’s management executive committee shall have
the power to elect temporary membership to any visiting sports
club inclusive of official and players up to a maximum of
30 persons and may grant entry to the Club premises for one
day to participate in any organised game. Providing that the
election be made 48 hours before the temporary member is allowed
to use the Club facilities, and purchase intoxicating liquor.
General Rules For Everyone
No mobile phone to be used on the course and lounge/restaurant
areas in the clubhouse but silent mode is allowed for incoming
alerts and messaging. Phones can be used in the car park and
changing rooms.
Members and visitors are requested not to change clothing
or footwear in the Club car parks (the practice area car park
is excluded from this rule.
Rules of Golf
All play shall be in accordance with the Rules of Golf as
adopted by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews
as amended, where allowed, by the Club’s Local Rules.

Local Rules
All members and visitors must obey the Local Rules.
Dogs are not permitted on the course or in the Clubhouse with
dispensation in advance by the management executive committee.
Only wide wheel trolleys are allowed on the course.
Two, three and four balls have equal standing on Saturdays
and Sundays.

Property
Club Property – No members or visitors may take away
or permit to be taken away, from the Clubhouse or from the
Course under any circumstance except with prior permission
from the Management Executive Committee or the Secretary any
newspaper, pamphlet, book or other article, furniture or machinery,
being the property of the Club. No member or visitor may damage
or modify and Club property including lockers rented to them
by the Club.
Personal Property – The Club cannot
be held responsible for the property of members and visitors
left unattended on Club premises.
All articles of clothing or equipment left in the locker rooms
will be cleared away each week, kept by the Club for a period
of one month; after then they will be disposed of.
Notices
No notice or placard, written or printed, may be displayed
anywhere in the Clubhouse or on the Course without prior permission
of the Management Executive Committee or the Secretary.
Payments
Members and visitors must settle all expenses incurred by
themselves or, for members, on behalf of their guests, before
leaving the premises. Cheques will be accepted in settlement
of accounts for less than £50 but must be accompanied
by a cheque guarantee card.
Complaints
All complaints must be made in writing to the Secretary who,
if unable to deal with them will submit them to the Management
Executive Committee whose decision shall be final. Under no
circumstances may a member or visitor directly reprimand an
employee or person working for or on behalf of the Club.
Smoking
Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the Clubhouse except
in the Day Room.
GOLF ETIQUETTE MUST BE OBSERVED
This clubs provides The Captain and President with courtesy
of the course at all times.
The first section of the Rules of Golf covers Etiquette.
The full details may be found on pages 11 and 12 in the last
edition of Rules presented by Royal Insurance. Basically they
are commonsense rules to ensure that all golfers may play
with unnecessary problems on a course in the best condition
and therefore should be observed by all golfers.
- Make sure it is safe to play before striking the ball.
Do not move, talk or stand close to or directly behind the
ball or hole when a player is addressing or making a stroke.
- Play without delay but not until the players in front
are out of range.
- Players searching for a ball should not search for five
minutes allowed before a ball has to be deemed lost before
calling the following players through if it apparent that
the ball will not be easily found; and wait until they are
out of range before continuing to play.
- Leave the putting green immediately a hole has been completed;
no practicing the putt again.
- A single player has no standing and should always give
way to a match. Two ball matches have precedence over, and
should be allowed to pass any 3 or 4 ball matches, provided
there is enough space ahead to allow continuity of play.
Two, three and four balls have equal standing on Saturdays
and Sundays.
- If there are no tee reservations indicated by the notice
board matches starting a round must alternate with matches
starting their second nine holes.
- Fill up and smooth over all holes and footprints made
in a bunker before leaving it.
- Ensure that any turf cut or displaced is replaced at
once and press down; repair damage caused to a putting green
made by a ball; repair damage caused by golf shoe spikes
on completion of the hole.
- Do not take trolleys on to any tee or green, do not walk
with them between a bunker and the green or take them across
yellow lines or other markings in front greens.
- Do not carry a bag over a green.
- Always take trolleys around any roped-off area.
- Do not put golf bags down on greens or damage the greens
with the flagstick or by leaning on a putter; remove the
flagstick or attend it from as far away from the hole as
practical.
- Rakes are to be left in the bunkers.
Members and visitors are asked to read, remember and act
on the above for the benefit of themselves and other players.
LOCAL GOLF RULES
Out of Bounds - In general out of bounds is marked with white
posts.
In addition a ball is out of bounds:-
- In or through any boundary ditch or fence
- Within the area bounded by the fence and white stakes
surrounding the farmhouse and outbuildings.
- The ditch to the left of the 9th hole up to the protruding
copse
- On or through the car park and Clubhouse.
Water hazards (see Rule 26)
- Water hazards are as marked; YELLOW STAKES denote water
hazards; RED STAKES denotes lateral water hazards
Stones in Bunkers
- Stones in bunkers are deemed to be ‘movable obstructions’
and may be moved without penalty
- Should the ball move in doing so, it shall be replaced
without penalty under rule 24-1
Immovable Obstructions
The following are to be treated as immovable obstructions
and relief obtained under rule 24-2(b)(i):
- Trees marked with stakes
- Made-up roads and paths
- Manhole covers, drains, ‘pop-up’ sprinkler
heads
- The Pump House and Water Tank on the 18th hole
- The starters hut on the first tee and all weather shelters
- Trees protected with rabbit bands are not classed as
staked trees.
Ground Under Repair
The following areas are treated as Ground Under Repair and
relief is obtained under Rule 25-1(b)(i);
- Newly turfed areas marked with white lines
- Tractor tyre marks
- Unrepaired drainage trenches, sunken drainage lines and
heat cracks and the area six inches either side of newly
turfed trenches
- All winter greens *
- The flower beds in front of the Clubhouse+ but excluding
the garden to the right of the first tee
(* In these cases the ball MUST be picked up under the rule)
NB bark chipping surrounding trees is an integral part of
the Golf Course
Drainage Grids On Greens
Relief may be taken if grids interfere with line of putt,
ball or stance. Rule 25-1(b)(iii)
Overhead Wires
A ball striking an overhead wire MUST be replayed in accordance
with Rule 20-5
Penalty for breach of local rule
- Match Play – Loss of Hole
- Stroke Play – 2 Strokes.

NOTES & EXPLANATIONS
All events and times are correct at the time of upload
to the website. There will be inclusions, deletions and alterations
and all members and visitors are advised to keep looking at
the ‘Events Notice Board’ in the entrance to the
Club, which cover the next seven days and updated each day,
and ‘Daily Notice Board’ which will give exact
times of any tee reservations.
The course is closed other than to competitors during competitions
(see competition rules) and for certain other events agreed
by the Executive Committee. Course closures for the whole
or part of a day, are indicated in the diary by ‘CC’.
Tees are reserved for Ladies’ Competitions on Tuesdays,
or a substitute day as indicated as follows:-
1st Tee 9.00am – 12 .30pm
10th Tee 11.00am – 3.00pm
The AP Golf Society has the right to play the course without
tee reservation from 4.00pm on Mondays in the summer and from
12.45pm in the winter.
Summer and winter are determined by the dates of British
Summer Time.
PERSONAL INSURANCE
The Club’s insurance only covers against liability and
personal accident claims for injuries as a result of the actions
of the club and its employees. It does not cover players who
inflict bodily injury or worse, on a third party and it does
not cover golfers causing damage to someone else’s property.
The Club does not accept liability for the loss of, or damage
to, the personal belongings of a member or visitor whilst
on the Club’s premises.
It is, therefore, the responsibility of all members and visitors
to have the appropriate type and level of insurance in place
to cover the hazards involved when playing the game of golf.
